Deathrun ARchives |
Since 2008 I was into making maps for the source engine, before then I'd love the park creator on Tony Hawk's Underground 2... And before then it was scenarios made with Lego, so pretty much I was always interested in making levels.
Anyway after countless hours of getting better at making maps and never releasing stuff I wasn't happy with, the opportunity for a mapping contest arose. Back in the day there was a community called Sassilization, they hosted their gamemode called Sassilization - kind of like civilization, but not turn based. It was a source of inspiration for something I wanted to make called Micro Wars.
After a few years since the community started they released 3 other servers: Deathrun, Climb and Bunny hop. All of which started in Counter-Strike. They started a deathrun mapping contest, around early 2010. I tried to make a map for this contest, the theme of which was an ode to their gamemode 'Sassilization'; I called it deathrun_medieval. I never finished it because hammer was failing to compile it. Certainly learned my lesson not to use the Carve Tool.
The next year they held yet another mapping contest, since then my skills as a mapper were 1000x better thanks to TopHattWaffle and his amazing tutorials. After a few months of hard work and dedication I finally finished it. I didn't have it properly tested with players in gmod, but it went on to win second place, very close to being first place.
