Climb |
Climb is a classic source engine gamemode where players would use the engine's movement system to "climb" obstacles. Many maps were specifically made to challenge the player's ability to climb.
Players are able to save their position and teleport to it later if they happen to fall down. At the end of the climb map, they receive some kind of reward. For veteran players, beating a map's world record time is more important. I wanted to make this gamemode in Garry's Mod and sell it on coderhire.com; a simple project that I thought wouldn't take long. My take on the game was that you would be collecting floating bundles of coins along the way and get few big money bags at the end. |
Besides making the models, I got into sound engineering too, making satisfying sounds when collecting money and teleporting. The gamemode was practically flawless, but it just needed some kind of shop and cosmetics.
This would've taken a long time to set up. Even implementing a pre-made addon called Pointshop would take some time and I was better off focusing on my last year of highschool. Coderhire.com also went down and I wasn't motivated enough to complete the project without a place I could sell it. A few other sites almost cloning coderhire came out but I was unsure about going back into that market because it didn't have the best reputation in the Garry's Mod space. Below are some climb wallpapers I whipped up for the main menu. |
